The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) last week said the nation’s external reserves appreciated to $43.314 billion, an increase of $6 million as at January 7, 2014. It said also the reserve appreciated by 2.41 per cent compared with $43.308 billion recorded in January 6.
The amount is the second growth increase in the foreign reserves since May 7, 2013 when it stood at N48.65 billion.
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala had in July 2012 stressed the need for Nigeria to shore up its external reserves. This point is unassailable because of the rainy days.
